Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital welcomes some new friends
Recently, Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, welcomed some new team members in early 2021. Felix and Trixie are fantastic additions to our team. The Sentara mission, "We Improve Health Every day" is our focus and these characters help us to continue going above and beyond as we deliver exceptional care to our community. "These characters are meant to complement our services as we strive to live out the Sentara mission. They bring joy to both patients and employees, and provide a little sunlight on a dreary day" says Wendy Crews, Manager of Guest Services and Community Engagement.
The past 12 months have been challenging for our employees and patients, so we wanted to find a way to bring a little extra cheer in 2021. Chaplin Vance Midgett tell us, "With so many emotions patients often experience while in the hospital – what a gift to be able to bring a smile to their face! In an instant they are transported to a carefree time in their life. This is such an important part of creating a healing environment and I'm so glad to be part of it in such a creative way. It is amazing that this brings smile upon smile on the faces of our incredible caregivers as well – offering a brief opportunity to replenish!"
Felix and Trixie are busy visiting with patients and employees. You never know where you might find them, they like to be spontaneous. Patient Advocate, Victoria Jernigan tells us, "At any age, I believe we all can agree that there is a childlike imagination that is just waiting for the chance and the opportunity to burst right out of us. This is evident from the smiles, laughter, numerous pictures, and constant joy that our patients and staff have while getting the opportunity to interact with our characters." Seeing smiles all around when these characters appear has been wonderful. We are happy to provide a small light in a challenging time. We look forward to the many visits to come in 2021.
