Unique boutique dedicated to cancer recovery opens in the Sentara Brock Cancer Center
Inside the lobby of the newly opened Sentara Brock Cancer Center, patients can visit a chic boutique specially tailored for someone going through cancer treatment. Silhouette Mastectomy Boutique offers beautiful clothing and accessories, but also mastectomy wear, wigs, and a variety of prosthetics. “Your body goes through so many changes after a cancer diagnosis,” certified mastectomy fitter Lynn Phill explains. “Most women don’t realize this until after they are diagnosed, and that’s why we are here, to help them be comfortable, confident, and stylish.”
A team of compassionate and certified mastectomy fitters walks patients through their shopping experience based on their cancer diagnosis, lifestyle, and individualized needs. Women can get fitted for mastectomy wear, pre- or post-surgery, find swimsuits or athletic wear tailored to their needs, or wigs of all kinds for those undergoing chemotherapy.
“It is important that our patients can get everything they need during one visit to the Sentara Brock Cancer Center,” says Cindy Allen, Vice President of Cancer Services at Sentara Healthcare. “We take special care to schedule all of their doctor appointments together, and now patients will be able to stop by Silhouette’s while they are here. It’s a tremendous partnership and very convenient for our patients.”
Silhouette Mastectomy Boutique first opened in Newport News in 2008 after realizing the demand for mastectomy care in the Hampton Roads area was growing. Now, a second location is available in Norfolk at the Sentara Brock Cancer Center to better serve patients who live on the Southside.
LaShawna Robinson lives in Portsmouth and was previously making the drive to Newport News each time she needed something from Silhouette’s after her lumpectomy.
“After my surgery, I could no longer wear a regular bra. It was painful for me,” LaShawna said. “That was something I had not even thought I would need when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. These services itself are so needed and I’m grateful for the second location so I don’t have to travel so far anymore.”
Most prosthetics require a doctor’s prescription and are covered by insurance. Appointments are required for specialized fittings. To learn more about Silhouette Mastectomy Boutique, please visit their website.
