Dr. Matthew Summers is an interventional cardiologist with the structural heart team at Sentara Heart Hospital. After graduating from the University of Richmond, he earned his medical degree from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Duke University. In his five years of subsequent cardiology fellowship training at the Cleveland Clinic, Dr. Summers performed hundreds of procedures and cared for the most critically ill heart patients. He became board-certified in cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, and nuclear cardiology. He is a principal investigator of the clinical trial at the Sentara Heart Valve Center that implanted the first JenaValve Trilogy™ Heart Valve in Virginia as part of a clinical trial using the non-surgical valve replacement for the treatment of severe aortic regurgitation.
