Pulmonary Diagnostic Lab
Hours: Monday – Friday: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center Pulmonary Diagnostic Lab performs diagnostic tests based on American Thoracic Standards (ATS) standards. Credentialed Respiratory Therapists receiving specialized training in pulmonary function technology perform different types of breathing tests to determine the presence or absence of pulmonary (lung) disease. When pulmonary disease is present, the disease extent and progression can be determined through subsequent testing. These tests are also performed to monitor effects that certain medications may have on lung and airway function.
Tests may include delivery of inhaled medication to provide a method of assessing changes in lung function related to the particular medication administered. Board certified pulmonologists interpret test results. Patients are scheduled for tests based on a physician referral.
